Little Big Truths

It is so easy to simply read your Bible and set it back down. I do this all the time. A little Old Testament and then some words written in red. Maybe some parables and I almost always read Romans 8. But other than that..that can be it. That’s what my “quality time” with God has been like for too long. I can admit it and I already know I am forgiven. But that does not mean I should be okay with just skimming through God’s Word when I’m on my break or before I go to bed.

The other night I was frustrated about something and didn’t want to find the positive in the situation. In the midst of my ranting Tucker said “just let it all out!” So I went for it and I went full on crazy (as girls do). After I let it all out he said “Okay, what are some Biblical truths in this?” Uhh… dude I am upset why would I want to recite scripture? As confused as I was in the moment, that confusion quickly became conviction. Do I not know how to apply what I read in the Bible to my life/to my character?

It’s not hard to lose sight of what we are actually reading when we read the Bible. The words we see in the Bible have some crazy power. And reading the Bible can actually teach you more about yourself than you ever could. So tonight before I went to bed I decided to find some Biblical truths and turn them into a little art project. I painted these little pieces of paper all these different colors. Then I wrote true statements and references from scripture on them. For example, I wrote “I am a Child of God” and then added “John 1:12” at the bottom. It is essentially truths backed by truths.

My intention is to hang them up around the house and read them whenever I walk by. That way I am learning a little bit more about my Father and what He says about me. My hope is that these little cards can encourage and challenge me daily. So if you want to try this go right ahead! Remind yourself what God truly says by placing these throughout your home, office, car, whatever! And it could honestly be as simple as reading a truth in scripture, writing it on a sticky note, and putting it on your fridge. You really don’t have to go all pinterest-y on it. If you are doing this so you can pursue God more, you’re doing it the right way.

If you want some examples to get started try using some of these:

I am God’s Child – John 1:12

As a disciple, I am a friend of Jesus – John 15:15

I have been bought with a price and I belong to God – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I am forgiven – Colossians 1:13-14

I have power to witness – Acts 1:8

I am assured that God works for my good in all circumstances – Romans 8:28

I am a citizen of heaven – Philippians 3:20

I have been justified freely by his grace – Romans 3:24

I have access to the Father – Romans 5:2

I can pray always and everywhere – Luke 21:36

I can stand firm – 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15

I cannot be separated from God’s love – Romans 8:35-29

Pretty simple right? If you’re interested in trying this please please please feel free to do it! And if you feel comfortable please let me know you’re doing this. That way I can be praying for you while you grow and learn more about Our Father. And we can go through this together!
